Ahead of Delhi elections, Aam Aadmi Party chief Arvind Kejriwal has charged Delhi BJP chief Satish Upadhyay with corruption.

When Mr Upadhyay threatened to sue him for defamation, Mr Kejriwal called it a “face-saving gesture”.

Mr Kejriwal, who had promised to “expose” the BJP, alleged at a media conference today that in a clear conflict of interest, BJP leaders have ties with power discoms and due to that, the price of electricity was increasing.

Mr Upadhyay, he said, owned a company that supplies electricity meters to discom BSES.
“Satish Upadhya and Ashish Sood have shareholding in an electricity firm Infomedia Private Limited. He is the majority shareholder. Sood is the director,” Mr Kejriwal said.

The price of electricity has been increased twice in Delhi despite the BJP’s promise of a 30% deduction, Mr Kejriwal said, adding, “Services contract (of Mr Upadhyay) has been proven. Is there a supply contract too?”

Mr Upadhyay and the BJP, he said, should come clean on their relationship with the BSES.

Hitting back, Mr Upadhyay said there was no company by that name and he would file charges against Mr Kejriwal for defamation. “Kejriwal should either give proof of companies that he is alleging that I’m part of, or he should quit politics,” he said.

In the evening, claiming he was ready to face a defamation case, Mr Kejriwal said AAP had papers about the company’s directorship and the proof was there on the company website.

Mr Upadhyay’s words, he said, were a mere face saving gesture.
